From the Piazza della Republica, it can be seen the remains of what once was the original basilica later transformed into the Church of Saint Mary of Angels or Santa Maria degli Angeli by Michaelangelo in 1561 by order of Pope pio IV. An enormous church with eight colossol columns in red granite originally belonging to the Springs or "Terme".
