Description: It dates from late 2nd century BC in Republican Era. This temple is known as the Temple of the Fortuna Virilis but should be instead be identified as the Temple of Portunus, an ancient tutelary deity of rivers and harbours. The building was very close to the Port Tiberinus on the Tiber river. The attribution of this temple to Human Fortune is without foundation. In the 9th century it was used ad a church. It was restored most that once and its present aspect dates to a restoration of the 1st century BC.
