Mercati di Traiano, built for the Emperor Trajan in the 2nd century A.D. The building is located a short distance from the Colosseum, and you can see the original five level building where food, oil, pottery, flowers, imitation designer sandals, etc. were sold. Most of the 150 shops are still intact and can be visited, but unfortunately there have no longer any goods to buy.
